Running to a New Library
This past Saturday night marked a memorable milestone.
Five containers of books and materials spread across three trucks and two long nights. The first truck—carrying one container—arrived Saturday evening, and from 8:30 to 10:00 pm, a team of 15 volunteers jumped into action. And when we say “jumped,” we mean it. The team at ABC in Rwanda was running to their new library.
For one hour and twenty minutes, workers literally ran—grabbing two boxes at a time, carrying them to their destination, and running back to the truck for more.
The momentum continued.
At 10:00 pm Monday night, the final of the three trucks arrived. This one carried two additional containers, and 25 workers were ready and waiting. Together they emptied both containers in about 2½ hours, finishing at 12:30 am. That came right after the night before, when the team worked late and didn’t wrap up until 1:30 am.
With the containers unloaded, furniture was divided between ABC’s two libraries. Book processing is moving quickly — Multnomah had already completed the number tabs for the spines. The new bookends were also cheerfully received—a big upgrade from the roughly handmade ones previously used at ABC.
Every box moved is another step toward completing the journey of the Mitchell Library collection. Each book represents decades of scholarship, study, and faithful teaching—resources that will soon serve new readers and students. What once filled the library of the Multnomah campus will now have the opportunity to inspire and equip the people of Rwanda to “fall more in love with their Savior” as they work to establish the largest theological library in Africa.
This Legacy Project reminds us that the work of God continues through generations—through books, through teachers, through students, and through volunteers willing to run with boxes late into the night.
The Multnomah Library Project is more than logistics.
It is about continuing a legacy.
There is a remaining need of $19,300 to cover the cost of purchasing and transporting the books to Rwanda. In addition, there will be approximately $5,000 in extra fees for delays at port. Your gift will help ensure that the Mitchell Library’s legacy continues to serve students and ministry leaders for years to come.
Help All the Bible in Community (ABC) with shipping expenses to get the Mitchell Library to Rwanda and give it a second life. Checks may be mailed in to the address below or donations can be made directly to ABC & Dr. G via the link below.
